As part of Cherry Mobile’s CSR advocacy of creating and promoting sustainable development and recognizing the significant contribution of social workers in improving the well-being and quality of life of needy Filipinos, Cherry Mobile actively participated in the celebration of the World Social Work Day held on March 15-16, 2016 at Miriam College, Quezon City. The month of March was dubbed as the National Social Work Month.

The two-day event was attended by over 400 social workers and aspirants from different parts of the country with some representatives from Germany, Canada, and the United States as the International Federation of Social Workers simultaneously celebrated this special day.
Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Alicia dela Rosa Bala and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman graced the event along with other seasoned social workers who served as resource speakers.

Several sub-topics affecting social workers and the current plight of their clientele were discussed. The highlight of the Summit was the adoption of the Social Work and Social Development Agenda which was drafted during the different break-out sessions in the Summit. It was presented to the DSWD Secretary and who, in response, gave her full support to the declaration.
During the second day of the Summit, the CSR Manager of Cherry Mobile, Ms Regin Peñaflor-Anacay, moderated a plenary session exploring opportunities for Social Workers in the private sector. She was joined by Ms Helen Orande, the Executive Director of the League of Corporate Foundations, and Mr Roy Luntayao, the Sustainability and Development Manager of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI). They talked about the roles of social workers in the corporate setting and how they can help in creating sustainable programs and services for those people in need.

Both registered social workers, Cherry Mobile CSR Officers Jan Marvin Bernedo and Relet Martobagolso facilitated the breakout sessions on Exploring Alternative Care for Children in Residential Care and Reflecting on the Impact of the Conditional Cash Transfer Program in Alleviating Poverty. Ms. Peñaflor-Anacay also facilitated a session on Building a New Generation of Social Work Leaders from Classroom to Boardroom with Prof. Mary Lou Alcid of UP Diliman and Prof. Luz Martinez of Miriam College.

Social workers also had the chance to enjoy themselves in an afternoon filled with laughter and fun as some of the participants shared their talents on stage. Different prizes were also given away and Cherry Mobile gave 12 units of CM Infinix phones as part of the raffle prizes of the event.

Participants received fordable bags from Cherry Mobile as freebies.
Indeed, the Social Work Summit proved successful in gathering social workers from different fields (the academe, medical, court, corporate sector, government agencies, non-government organizations, faith-based, etc.) to share their valuable experiences from their respective specializations. Cherry Mobile CSR fully supports what the social workers are doing for the development of society.
The said summit was organized by the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI)-NCR Chapter with the theme: Social Workers: Nagpapahalaga sa Karapatan at Dignidad ng Bawat Tao.
